Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute (BBCI) is a Grant-In-Aid Institute of Department of Atomic Energy, Govt. of India, and a Unit of Tata Memorial Centre (Mumbai) established in the year 1973 is celebrating its Golden Jubilee year (Nov. 2022- Nov. 2023). The institute has started academic programme in the year 2006 with the introduction of paramedical course Two years PG Diploma in Radiotherapy Technology. In the year 2007 the institute started 3 more paramedical courses viz. Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology , Diploma Programme for Anaesthesia Technicians, Diploma Programme in Radiotherapy Technology under Directorate of Medical Education, Assam and in the year 2008 again one more course i.e. Diploma Course of OT & CSSD Technology under Directorate of Medical Education, Assam started. Later in the year 2010-2011 the courses were affiliated to Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. The Institute has started M.Sc in Radiological Physics with collaboration with Gauhati University since 2011.


Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute is a Post Graduate teaching Institute conducting various PG courses under the SSUHS (Health University of the State of Assam). The Institute has started first MD in Radiation Oncology with two seats since 2013 which was later increase to five seats in 2020. The institute started Super- Specialty course in five (5) disciplines of oncology viz. M.Ch in Surgical Oncology (2016), M.Ch in Head & Neck Surgery (2020), M.Ch in Gynaecological Oncology (2020), DM in Medical Oncology(2017) and DM in Oncopathology (2020). Two years Fellowship Programme for doctors in different branches of Oncology has also been conducting since 2011. The Institute also conduct Master of Hospital Administration (affiliated by University of Science and Technology Meghalaya), M.Sc in Medical Surgical Nursing (Oncology Nursing), Post Basic Diploma In Oncology Nursing, PhD programmes, seven (7) nos. of paramedical courses under Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute also run the TMC-MERCK Oncology Fellowship Programme for the African Doctors. Besides, Dr. B Borooah Cancer Institute also conducts various certificate courses and short-term training programmes. Most of our courses are recognized by the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences, Guwahati. KEVAT intern from Tata Memorial Centre Mumbai also undergo internship programme at BBCI. More than 90% of our passed out alumni were successful in getting jobs after completing these courses, and our endeavours have really benefited all the North Eastern States where there is a real dearth of trained manpower.
