Miss Dutta completed her Masters
in Social Work with specialization
in medical and psychiatric work
from Tata Institute of Social
Sciences, Mumbai. Psychological
counseling is an integral part
of comprehensive cancer treatment
care. |

Art
of Living Foundation, a Guwahati
Branch NGO conducted a short training
course for cancer patients and
their relatives at BBCI for three
days from 15.05.2003 to 17.05.2003.
It was preceded by an interactive
session on 11.05.2003.
The objective of the training
was to alleviate the tension/depression
associated with cancer and to
teach the patients about the positive
attitude towards life. |

of BBCI was convened on 25th July 2003.
A project "Immunodetection of poly-ADP-ribosylation(PAR)
in human blood and tissue samples:Probing
its use as a cancer marker" by
Prof. R. N. Sharan, North Eastern Hill
University, was approved for collaboration
with BBCI. Another project 'Population
Based Cancer Registry - Guwahati (Urban
- Kamrup District)' supported by ICMR
with Dr. J. Dev Sarma as Principal Investigator

of tobacco on health amongst the patients
and their relatives, hospital employees
for a discussion on harmful effect of
tobacco on health. Dr. (Ms) T. Rahman
delivered a talk on 'Tobacco and Cancer'
and Dr. R. J. Das spoke on 'Effects
of Tobacco on Health'. As a part of
this Celebration 'World No Tobacco Day',
an article of Dr. B. K. Das, Senior
Consultant Surgical Oncology titled
"ONUS OF QUITTING SMOKING LIES
ON THE SMOKER" was also published
in 'The Sentinel' on 31st May 2003. |

telecast by the Guwahati Doordarshan
Kendra on 16.06.2003 at 2:30 PM. The

of Breast Cancer'. It may be mentioned
that 'National Cancer Control Programme'
has given lots of interest in prevention
and early diagnosis of oral and tobacco
related cancer, cervical and breast
cancer in female. |

DETECTION & AWARENESS CAMP:: |

early detection of cancer and awareness
programme was conducted at 19 Wing Air
Force Campus, Borjhar under the aegis
of Air Force Wives Welfare Association
(AWWA) on the 19th July 2003. A total
of 118 ladies were examined for early
detection of breast and cervical cancer. |

Melas' in nine places from 15th January
